The student was asked to redesign a pre-existing physicians office in Tallahassee, Florida. The goal was to create a restorative, positive environment that enhances the body and mind, define patient and provider zones with spaces for interaction and connection, design a calming space for nervous patients by creating exceptional way-finding, clear lines of sight, and an overall relaxing environment.
The concept of this design is pulled from the Essence-Energy-Spirit Theory of Taoist medicine where the body is seen as interrelated energies. These five interconnected energies have that have their own color, natural element, and representative body part. The concept will be achieved through sustainable design and the use of natural materials and by creating zones for connection and collaboration of patients and physicians- all within an artistic design that creates a soothing, restorative environment. All of these elements and colors will be incorporated into the design by way of the material and furniture selections, as well as the color palette.
