The redesign of Gourmet Grocer for the Retail Design Institute competition. Mercato balances a futuristic American grocery with a traditional Italian farmers market. The customers will use an app where they can order they’re everyday groceries. These groceries can be picked up to the right of the main entrance by checking in and having employees cart your food out to your car. The goal of this project is to integrate the future with the historic past by creating a grocery store where we can order the food we need but also browse for produce, plants, and grab food or a drink with friends! In 5,000 square foot rectangle near the front of the building, there will be stands for produce to be bought, indigenous plants for sale, multiple food vendors that offer international tastings and meals, a wine bar, and finally chairs and tables to relax and have a bite with friends. This maximizes the experience of a grocery store and makes the process of shopping a memorable experience.
